  • Chiaki Ito won the Douglas Fogle Prize. In Mr. Fogle’s words: “I found the names of some of my favorite bands here too. The works take us on a journey through music history.”
  • Masamitsu Katsu received the Kashiwa Sato Prize. Mr.Sato commented, “his concept was clear and I enjoyed the minimal nature of the works. Everything was well thought out and I sensed many possibilities for the future.
  • The Marcel Dzama Prize went to Gluten. He commented, “I enjoyed the mixture of ideas and humor in his work and also want to compliment on his charity activities.
  • The winner of the Samuel Kung Prize was Haruna Tokimatsu. Mr. Kung commented: “I’m from Shanghai, so seeing paintings of many people resonates with me. Her paintings are lively and yet full of detail.
  • Marefumi Komura won the Hiroshi Fujiwara Prize. “I chose the art that I would want to decorate my own room. I already bought four paintings.”
  • The winners of the bronze prize were Marefumi Komura and Masamitsu Katsu, who also received respectively the Hiroshi Fujiwara Prize and Kashiwa Sato prizes. According to Sata “There was a lot of debate over who should receive the bronze prize but in the end, they are both great artists so we decided to award it to the two of them.”
  • The silver medalist was Miki Taira. “The oriental elements in her work set her apart from the other artists. We also liked the shapes she made from clothing.”
  • And the winner of the was Enami Nara. “ We could tell she has a very strong concept and she has ably mixed fashion with abstraction.”
