GEISAI MIAMI 2007 Photo Report

  • GEISAI Miami was our first event held abroad. To celebrate, Chairman Murakami took a commemorative photo with the artists.
  • These pamphlets were available for visitors.
  • To introduce Miami residents to GEISAI, we installed a huge banner on the outer wall.
  • This may look like the every day booth map seen at most art fairs overseas but if you look closely, the information posted was not the booth layout but the profiles of the individual artists themselves!
  • The booth numbers as well were followed by the names of each exhibitor and of course, the artists themselves were present in the booth to great guests. This setup has always been the point that sets GEISAI apart but when placed side by side with more conventional art fairs, the concept seem to take on even further value. Pictured here is Lizabeth Eva Rossof’s booth.
  • GEISAI Miami was held as part of a special wing of Pulse Miami, one of the many art fairs that take place in the city during Art Basel weekend. This meant that the event was a fair within a fair. Here we see the booths being visited by a massive number of guests. The artists signing autographs is Katsu Masamitsu, who traveled from Japan for the event.
  • To give the venue its own special flavor, we also invited DJ unit Ryukyudisko from Japan.
  • GEISAI Miami Pre-screening jury member Massimiliano Gioni, well known for his work with the New Museum and the Venice Biennale, stopped by the exhibition hall. Here he seems quite fascinated by Sumiko Nogi’s “oppai mufflers”.
  • This was Eric Doeringer’s booth, which he hung with “bootleg” versions of famous contemporary art works, salon style, and sold at discount prices. The unique concept proved very popular with visitors.
  • Erica Eyrees’ booth was full of lyrical, impressionistic drawings.
  • Quashelle Curts-Christie’s booth featured an installation of figures that took the lives of African-American single mothers living in the Bronx as their motif, making for interesting social commentary.
  • Here is another exhibitor from Japan, Akira Ikezoe, who showed highly detailed paintings.
  • The booth for the already famous artist group TM Sisters. Many of their fans were seen stopping by.
  • Thanks in part to our association with Pulse, the event had great buzz and lines could be seen outside the venue both day and night.
  • With the first day concluded, we hit a local Miami night club. After much celebrity-spotting, the gorgeous night flew on its way.
